Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian library seating is characterised by robust timber frames, deep button tufting, and generous padding designed for extended periods of reading and study. These pieces frequently incorporate rich hardwoods and sumptuous textiles to convey status and comfort.

Authentic period chairs typically feature frames constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, walnut, or oak, joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques. Upholstery generally relied on coil spring foundations, horsehair stuffing, and heavy woven textiles secured with brass tacks.

Authenticity is evaluated through hand-carved details, timber patina, traditional joinery methods, and signs of age such as oxidation on metal castors and wear patterns on the wood. Hand-tied springs and natural stuffing materials also indicate age prior to modern synthetic manufacturing.

Pairing antique seating with contemporary architecture or minimalist decor creates a striking focal point through the contrast of eras. Placing them beside a sleek modern coffee table or within a neutral room highlights their rich textures and sculptural wooden frames.

Preservation involves keeping wooden frames away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking and fading. Velvet and plush textiles should be gently brushed and vacuumed with a low-suction attachment, while timber requires occasional treatment with appropriate paste wax.
