FAQs

A tea caddy is a container used to store tea securely when tea was an expensive commodity, with Victorian examples often featuring fine veneers and lockable lids.

These pieces typically utilise a pine or mahogany carcass covered in highly figured burr walnut veneer, frequently accented with boxwood stringing and brass escutcheons.

Authenticity is indicated by traditional construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, older secondary woods, natural ageing of the veneer, and period-appropriate lock mechanisms.

This type of decorative object works well styled on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table, adding texture and historical interest to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent the veneer from drying and cracking, applying occasional quality beeswax, and avoiding moisture.
