Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian tantalus compendium box is constructed from oak with a golden brown timber finish, mirrored glass, silver-plated hardware, and cut glass. The opened structure reveals a central compartment holding three cut-glass decanters with faceted faceted stoppers, set against a rectangular mirror back beneath a silver-plated shield cartouche. Hinged cantilever side compartments deploy tiered trays on articulated metal arms, while two small drawers sit beneath the base platform behind a drop-down front panel secured with a lock plate. The external case features straight graining and polished surfaces with flush hinges and small metal lifting plates. Measuring 36 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 32 cm deep, the unit provides a decorative storage and display piece suited for placement on a sideboard top or desk in a gentleman's library, study, or living room. It functions both as a traditional drinks cabinet containing its original decanter set and as a decorative container for small personal items.

A tantalus is a wooden or metal frame designed to hold spirit decanters, featuring a lockable mechanism that prevents the bottles from being opened without a key while keeping them visible.

Tantalus sets from circa 1900 were typically crafted from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring nickel-plated or silver-plated metal fittings and heavy cut-glass decanters.

Authentic pieces from around 1900 feature hand-cut crystal decanters with original stoppers, period lock mechanisms, dovetail drawer construction, and silver-plated cartouches or escutcheons.

Position the tantalus on a sideboard, drinks cart, or console table alongside glassware to create a structured display in a dining room or study.

Maintain the oak housing by wiping with a soft cloth and applying natural beeswax polish, while washing cut-glass decanters by hand with warm water to prevent clouding.
