We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French mirrors are characterised by elaborate ornamentation, often featuring symmetrical or asymmetrical scrolling motifs, cartouches, and crests influenced by Rococo and Neoclassical revivals.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from carved wood, often gessoed and hand-gilded with gold leaf or metal leaf over a bole base, holding mercury glass or early silvered mirror plates secured with wooden backboards.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-carved wooden frames rather than resin moulds, signs of age such as foxing or oxidisation on the mirror plate, traditional joinery at the corners, and the presence of period hardware.

An antique gilt mirror can serve as a dramatic focal point when hung above a modern fireplace mantelpiece or propped against a wall to create a sense of light and scale in a contemporary room.

Gilded surfaces are extremely delicate and should only be dusted gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid using any chemical cleaning agents, water, or abrasive materials that could strip the gold leaf.
