An oval back writing chair is a traditional seating form featuring an open, curved backrest designed for desks or writing tables, popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These chairs were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, often featuring hand-carved details and traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, tool marks, hand-cut joinery, wear patterns on the feet, and the type of secondary wood used in the framing.

This piece can be used as an occasional desk chair or placed in a corner as a statement seat, contrasting traditional woodwork with modern minimalist surroundings.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural beeswax.
