FAQs

Eighteenth-century Irish dining chairs often feature robust proportions, distinct regional carving interpretations, and influences from English Chippendale styles adapted by local cabinet makers.

These chairs are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring traditionally upholstered drop-in seats covered in textiles like velvet or leather.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut components, timber shrinkage patterns, and period-appropriate wear and oxidisation on the wood.

They can be paired with a minimalist or modern dining table to create a striking contrast between old craftsmanship and contemporary design, adding character and historical depth to the room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber drying, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood finish.
