The Chippendale style, popular during the mid-to-late 18th century, is characterised by its incorporation of Gothic, Chinese, and Rococo elements, typically featuring intricate pierced splat backs and sturdy proportions.

Country makers frequently utilised native timbers such as elm, oak, and ash, often pairing durable hardwoods for the frames with traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut joinery, timber patination, tool marks, and historical wear patterns consistent with period manufacturing techniques.

Pairing antique wooden chairs with a contemporary dining table creates a striking focal point through the contrast of textures and historical eras.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber surface.
