FAQs

Giltwood armchairs feature carved wooden frames coated with a thin layer of gold leaf or gesso, often drawing inspiration from classical European design periods such as the Louis XV, Louis XVI, or Victorian eras.

These chairs are typically constructed from hardwoods such as beech or oak, featuring hand-carved detailing, traditional joinery, and layered upholstery supported by webbing and springs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-carved nuances of the wooden frame, the composition of the gesso and gold leaf layers, hand-forged fixings, and traditional upholstery techniques consistent with the era.

An antique armchair can be used as a statement piece in a modern living room or study, contrasting sharply with minimalist furniture to add texture, history, and a focal point to the space.

Giltwood requires gentle maintenance, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture to prevent the gold leaf from flaking. Dusting should be performed softly with a dry, lint-free cloth without chemical polishes.
