Description

A superb pair of Art Deco satin birch armchairs. We brought these over from Sweden, however, we believe they were made in Finland, and they date from the 1920-30’s period.

The quality is outstanding, they are an impressive size and are very comfortable. The frames are well sprung and sturdy, the backs have lovely little winged sides. The arms and base are beautifully made from satin wood which wraps around the frames nicely.

We have had the wood stripped and re-polished, and these have been fully re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is superb for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco emerged in France during the 1910s and flourished internationally during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of modern industrial materials alongside exotic woods.

Art Deco seating typically features robust hardwood frames, often veneered in exotic timbers such as satin birch, walnut, or mahogany, combined with coil-sprung upholstery and high-quality leather or heavy woven fabrics.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct joinery, traditional hand-tied coil springs, distinctive waterfall or streamlined wooden armrests, and genuine age-related patina on the exposed wood and upholstery.

These armchairs serve as sculptural statement pieces that anchor a room, pairing exceptionally well with minimalist modern furnishings, neutral colour palettes, and metallic accents such as brass or chrome.

Preserve the condition by keeping furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting or fading, and clean the wood periodically using a quality microfibre cloth and appropriate wax polish.
