Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often featured lighter woods, delicate marquetry, and a revival of 18th-century neoclassical motifs combined with practical functionality.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised native and exotic timbers such as maple, satinwood, and mahogany, often embellished with intricate boxwood and ebony stringing, as well as hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-drawn window glass with minor imperfections, traditional joinery, and natural ageing like patination on the timber and brass hardware.

This piece can serve as a focal point in a modern dining room or living space by contrasting its traditional inlaid wood with minimalist decor, using the internal shelves to display curated collections of ceramics or glassware.

To maintain the condition of antique timber, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources to prevent warping, and apply microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface.
