Structurally sound condition and ready for its next sitter. Some isolated, historic worm holes, and an old repair to the top rail where it joins the upright. Early 19th-century country chairs were typically crafted by regional joiners using locally sourced timbers like elm and ash, prioritising utility, structural sturdiness, and simple aesthetics over ornate ornamentation.

These pieces generally feature solid timber construction, often utilising elm for its interlocking grain and durability in seats, combined with mortise and tenon joints and hand-turned or squared stretchers for stability.

Authenticity is indicated by traditional hand-tool marks, period-appropriate joinery, natural wear patterns consistent with age, and the presence of original or early surface coatings such as historical paint or wax.

They provide functional seating that introduces historical character and tactile warmth when contrasted against clean-lined contemporary tables or used as an accent piece in a minimalist room.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and occasionally treating the surface with neutral microcrystalline wax.
