Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly using a dry, soft lint-free cloth. To preserve the original finish, apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the wood grain, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

In modern interiors, a teapoy is typically styled as a compact occasional side table or a standalone decorative piece. It is placed alongside armchairs, in living room alcoves, or within entryways to introduce historical wood tones to contemporary rooms.

Authentic pieces by Gillows of Lancaster and London are frequently stamped with the maker name impressed directly into the wood along drawer rims or base edges. Genuine 19th-century examples also exhibit dense mahogany timber, hand-cut dovetail joints, and original brass locks.

Teapoys were commonly constructed from high-grade hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often featuring cut flame veneers and hand-carved details. Internal compartments frequently included zinc or foil lining to protect the tea from moisture.

A teapoy is a specialised piece of 18th- or 19th-century English furniture designed to store and preserve tea leaves. It features a lockable chest mounted on a central pedestal stand, built during an era when tea was a costly commodity requiring secure storage.
