Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical design emerged in the mid-18th century as a revival of Greek and Roman classical architecture. Mirrors in this style feature strict symmetry, geometric structure, arched or pedimented tops, and architectural motifs such as pilasters, urns, and acanthus leaves.

Parcel gilt mirrors are constructed using a carved wooden frame, often coated in gesso and paint, with select carved details highlighted using hand-applied gold leaf. The mirror plate is set within this composite frame structure.

Authentic pieces display signs of natural age on the water gilding, subtle wear showing the underlying red or yellow clay bole, timber backing boards, and minor oxidisation or distress on the mirror silvering.

Positioning a Neoclassical mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or a hallway console table introduces classical structure and reflects light, serving as an architectural anchor within contemporary or traditional schemes.

Dust gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Avoid water, harsh solvents, or commercial liquid cleaners on gilded or painted gesso surfaces, as moisture can dissolve glue binders and lift gold leaf.
