Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-19th century, Gothic Revival furniture incorporates architectural elements inspired by medieval Europe, such as lancet arches, trefoil cut-outs, and heavy timber framing.

Victorian craftsmen frequently utilised pitch pine, oak, and walnut, employing traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints to assemble durable structures.

Authentic pieces typically display signs of hand-planing, original peg construction, natural wear patterns on foot rails, and slight timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Positioned in entryways or corridors, these structured wooden seats provide historical architectural contrast against clean, contemporary interior backdrops.

Apply a clear beeswax polish periodically following the direction of the wood grain and keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber cracking.
