Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, a work box was primarily designed to hold sewing, embroidery, and needlework tools. Upper- and middle-class women kept these portable caskets in drawing rooms to organize threads, thimbles, scissors, and ongoing textile projects.

Craftsmen typically utilised fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, rosewood, and ebony. External surfaces were frequently decorated with brass fittings, mother-of-pearl escutcheons, or intricate parquetry and marquetry bandings using contrasting timber veneers.

Authentic pieces generally display period-accurate construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints, brass keyhole escutcheons, and natural timber oxidisation. Internal compartments may retain original silk, velvet, or paper linings, along with authentic age-related wear around hinges and edges.

An antique work box functions effectively as a decorative accent on a sideboard, coffee table, or desk. It adds tactile timber warmth to modern spaces while providing concealed storage for small contemporary items like keys, stationery, or trinkets.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays. To protect the wood grain and original finish, apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year and keep the item away from direct sunlight or extreme heat sources.
