Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian French Revival side chairs combine 19th-century construction with 18th-century French design elements, such as Rococo scrollwork, carved shell motifs, and sweeping cabriole legs. These pieces were frequently decorated with painted or patinated finishes to emulate French court styles.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as beech or walnut for the carved frame before applying paint or gesso layers. Upholstered seats were supported by webbed construction and stuffed with natural fillings like horsehair, topped with cotton velvet or silk damask.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved detailing with subtle variations, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural wear patterns along high-contact areas of the painted finish. Inspecting the underside often reveals hand-sawn frame components and historical upholstery tacks.

These decorative seats work well positioned in entrance halls, bedrooms, or flanking a console table to introduce sculptural texture into contemporary schemes. Pairing painted timber with neutral palettes or minimalist modern artwork highlights their carved silhouettes.

Dust painted wood frames regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes that could strip historic paint layers. Velvet seats should be gently brushed using a soft-bristle clothes brush to clean dust without damaging the pile.
