Windsor chairs originated in rural England during the early 18th century, characterised by a solid wooden seat into which the legs and back spindles are directly wedged.

Authentic chairs are constructed using a combination of timbers, typically employing elm for the sculpted seat, ash or yew for the bentwood bow and spindles, and beech for the turned legs.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks on the underside of the seat, hand-turned spindles with subtle irregularities, and the natural patination and wear accumulated over centuries.

Such pieces function effectively as standalone accent seating in contemporary spaces, introducing organic warmth and historical contrast to minimalist or industrial rooms.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically nourishing the timber with traditional beeswax to maintain the finish.
