This late Georgian child's chair and matching stand are fashioned from warm brown figured Spanish mahogany with a polished wooden finish and a removable wooden child guard. The chair has a broad curved top rail and a narrower lower rail, flanked by scrolled arms with roundel turned decorations above an overstuffed lift-out seat upholstered in a patterned cream and beige fabric, a fluted seat rail, and short turned feet. The support stand features four tapered legs with ring turning, resting on simple small feet, and houses a central vertical screw mechanism with an exposed threaded metal rod connecting the two pieces. The entire combined assembly measures 92 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Placed in a reception room, study, or hallway as a decorative display piece, this chair and stand combination suits period interiors and traditional English country house styling. The sturdy timber construction and functional screw adjustment reflect the practical domestic design of the 1830s.

A Georgian child chair on stand, an early iteration of the modern high chair, comprises a miniature armchair elevated on a matching low table or framework to bring an infant to dining table height.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring turned timber components, brass fittings, and upholstered or woven cane seats.

Authentic late Georgian examples feature hand-cut joinery, turned legs, square-headed iron or brass screws, scroll arms, and natural timber patination consistent with late 18th to early 19th-century craft techniques.

An antique child chair serves as a decorative accent in a nursery, hallway, or living space, often utilised to display vintage textiles, plush toys, or potted indoor plants.

Dust the surface regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice annually to protect the original finish, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or damp areas.
