Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian knife box is a specialized wooden storage vessel designed in eighteenth-century Britain to store and display expensive silver flatware on a dining room sideboard. Typically featuring a sloping top, a curved or serpentine front, and internal slotted dividers, these boxes combined practical security with formal dining presentation.

George III knife boxes were primarily crafted from fine woods such as flame mahogany or satinwood, often decorated with boxwood, ebony, or holly stringing and marquetry inlays. Internal fittings typically featured velvet linings or polished timber dividers, accompanied by silver or brass keyhole escutcheons and handles.

Authentic eighteenth-century examples exhibit handcrafted joinery, including fine hand-cut dovetails and natural shrinkage along timber joints. Look for period-correct features like star or shell marquetry motifs inside the lid, original slotted interior decks, and genuine patination on the mahogany exterior.

An antique knife box serves as a distinguished accent when placed on a sideboard, console table, or desk. In modern settings, the interior can be converted or used open to hold stationery, modern cutlery, or decorative accessories while adding historic texture to a room.

To preserve the timber and inlay, display the box away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and moisture. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year to maintain the rich patina and protect the wood finish.
