This set of six nineteenth-century Chippendale style dining chairs originates from the English Country House tradition, constructed from dark brown mahogany with neutral hessian-textured fabric upholstery. Each single chair displays an acanthus-carved top rail above a pierced scrolled splat with vase and gadrooned detail, sitting between upright back stiles. The square tapering legs incorporate inset panels with carved harebell decoration, joined by chamfered H-stretchers and terminating in simple block feet. Measuring 96.5 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 44 cm deep, these traditional seats suit placement around a formal dining table in a dining room or study. The classic proportions and detailed woodwork provide functional seating that fits period interiors and formal living spaces.

Originating in the 18th century from cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, this style features ornate pierced splats, carved crest rails, and solid hardwood construction such as mahogany.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany timber, mortise and tenon joinery, carved pierced back splats, and woven or upholstered seats.

Look for hand-carved details, timber grain consistent with dense mahogany, traditional joinery methods, carved fretwork on square legs, and age-appropriate wear to structural joints.

Pair a set of mahogany Chippendale chairs with a minimalist oak or glass dining table to create a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary lines.

Keep chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading; polish regularly with beeswax using a lint-free cloth.
