FAQs

Giltwood frames combined with dense hardwoods like oak have been utilised since the 17th century, evolving through various classical design movements to enhance interior light reflection.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid oak or oak-veneered foundations with hand-carved wooden or gesso details finished in gold leaf or metallic paint.

Authentication involves examining the backing boards, joint construction, oxidisation of the mirror plate, and the ageing characteristics of the gilding and timber.

These pieces can be positioned above a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to add warmth, texture, and a focal point to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and keeping the item away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
