Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Qing Dynasty box is a cylindrical Chinese bamboo piece finished with a warm brown colour and a visible aged patina. The surface is profusely carved all around in high relief with a detailed garden scene including figures of men and women, an ox, architectural pavilions, and abundant foliage, complemented by decorative horizontal bands of turned circular coin motifs and carved leaf borders. It measures 16 cm high, 12.2 cm wide, and 12.2 cm deep. This lidded container makes a suitable addition to a gentleman's library or study desk, and sits well upon a bookshelf or display surface to hold small personal items.

FAQs

Carved bamboo vessels gained prominent status during the Ming and Qing dynasties in China, frequently produced for scholars studios and decorated with scenes from traditional folklore and nature.

These items are crafted from the tubular stalk or root of the bamboo plant, carved using deep relief techniques, and coated with protective lacquer or natural wax to preserve the grain.

Authentic pieces feature natural surface patination, deep multi-layered relief carving, and minor vertical shrinkage lines consistent with the aging of natural bamboo grain.

Place the vessel on a dark timber desk, open bookshelf, or mantelpiece alongside ceramic or brass items to highlight the detailed carved surface.

Maintain the object in an environment with stable humidity away from direct heat sources, and clean gently using a dry soft-bristled brush.
