Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing mirror or swing mirror, is an adjustable tabletop mirror designed to sit on top of a chest of drawers or vanity table. Popularised during the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, these pieces feature a swivel frame set between upright supports above a plinth base with drawers.

Eighteenth-century toilet mirrors were predominantly constructed using figured walnut, mahogany, or oak veneers laid over solid timber cores. The mirror plates were original silvered or mercury glass, secured with carved mouldings, brass turn-screws, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints in the base drawers, original brass fittings, and subtle foxing or oxidation spots on the glass mirror plate. Examining the reverse reveals hand-sawn backing boards with characteristic tool marks and natural age shrinkage.

Positioning a toilet mirror on top of a contemporary sideboard, hallway console, or vanity desk introduces historical texture and geometric structure. The small base drawers offer functional storage for jewellery and everyday trinkets while reflecting light across the room.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to nourish the walnut veneer. Avoid spraying chemical glass cleaners directly onto the frame, applying glass cleaner sparingly to a cloth instead to safeguard the antique mirror plate.
