Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian satin birch bedside cabinet exemplifies English Country House style from 1870. The piece displays a warm brown timber finish throughout, complemented by a raised gallery top with a splash back, a single panelled cupboard door secured with a turned brass knob, and a solid plinth base resting on rounded corners. Inside, a single shelf provides storage space for bedside essentials. The proportions measure 76 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. Position this versatile cabinet beside a bed in a guest room or master suite to hold a reading lamp, books, and night-time accessories. The compact footprint fits neatly into smaller spaces while offering practical concealed storage for everyday items.

FAQs

Historically used in 19th-century bedrooms to conceal a chamber pot, these compact single-door cabinets feature an enclosed interior and a raised gallery top to prevent items from sliding off.

Victorian craftsmen frequently utilised solid hardwoods and dense veneers such as satin birch, mahogany, walnut, and oak, combined with hand-cut dovetail joints and solid brass or turned wood ironmongery.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn backboards, hand-cut dovetail joinery inside frame structures, natural oxidation along raw timber surfaces, and original period hardware fixings.

These small cabinets serve effectively as bedside tables alongside contemporary upholstered beds, as compact end tables beside living room armchairs, or as standalone hall storage units.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish along the grain annually to nourish the wood surface and preserve its natural patination.
