Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century oak bedside cupboards were designed as functional utility furniture for bedrooms and dressing rooms. They typically feature compact dimensions, solid oak construction, single top drawers, and open shelving or lower cubbies intended for night-time necessities and chamber pots.

Victorian cabinet makers utilised solid English or European oak, often paired with secondary woods like pine or mahogany for drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass drop handles or wooden knobs, with joints hand-fitted using traditional dovetail and mortise-and-tenon construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer fronts, irregular saw marks on unpolished reverse surfaces, and natural wood shrinkage resulting in slight unevenness. Original brass hardware will show natural surface oxidisation rather than uniform modern plating.

An antique oak bedside cupboard functions effectively as a nightstand, end table beside a sofa, or a compact storage unit in a home office. The open pigeonholes provide functional storage for books, magazines, or decorative ceramic vessels.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing oak furniture near direct heat sources, radiators, or damp walls to prevent wood movement and splitting.
