Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Snuff boxes were personal accessories in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, used to hold finely ground tobacco. Hand-carved wooden examples often featured symbolic motifs, folk art iconography, or fraternal emblems reflective of the owners regional heritage or personal associations.

These boxes were typically carved from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, fruitwood, walnut, or oak. Construction often relied on flush friction lids or concealed wood hinges, finished with natural oil or beeswax to protect the timber.

Authentic period pieces exhibit smooth wear along edges and corners caused by repeated pocket handling, alongside hand-tool marks on interior surfaces. Natural shrinkage of the timber over time and a darkened patina further indicate genuine age.

A small carved box functions effectively as a decorative accent placed atop stacked books, inside a glazed cabinet, or arranged on a study desk alongside brass or ceramic objects.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from direct water or chemical solvents. A light application of clear microcrystalline wax can be used sparingly to nourish the timber and retain its natural lustre.
