Measuring 132.08 cm high by 132.08 cm wide and 7.62 cm deep, the piece is designed for placement above a mantel in a home today. It functions as a wall overmantel mirror suitable for display in a living room, drawing room, or hallway to add reflection and period decorative character to an interior setting.

FAQs

Art Deco mirrors from the 1920s typically feature bold geometric silhouettes, stepped corners, clean architectural lines, and metallic surface finishes such as giltwood or leaf gilding.

Traditional giltwood mirrors feature carved timber frames coated with layers of gesso, finished with hand-applied gold leaf using water or oil gilding techniques, and fitted with mirror glass.

Authentic 1920s pieces frequently exhibit period-appropriate backing timber, original joinery methods, natural surface oxidisation or light foxing on the glass plate, and hand-gilded geometric frame profiles.

Position the mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or console sideboard to act as an architectural focal point that reflects natural light and adds warm metallic tone.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding water or abrasive cleaning compounds which can damage the underlying gesso and gold leaf layer.
