We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency side cabinet, often referred to as a chiffonier or dwarf bookcase, is a compact storage piece that originated in early 19th-century Britain. Typically constructed with enclosed lower cupboards and open upper shelves, these pieces were designed to display books, china, or decorative items while occupying minimal floor space.

Regency cabinets predominantly utilised fine cuts of mahogany, rosewood, and exotic wood veneers paired with decorative brass accents. Elements such as brass wire mesh lattice, turned columns, pierced galleries, and solid brass handles were hallmark features of high-grade furniture from this era.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary woods such as pine or oak inside drawers and back panels, and natural wear patterns on feet and handles. Additionally, original brassware will show subtle variations and natural surface oxidisation rather than uniform modern machine finishing.

Position a Regency side cabinet against a feature wall, in an entryway, or beside a dining table to serve as a low credenza. Contrast the rich mahogany tones and brasswork by staging the open shelves with modern ceramics, framed artwork, or curated hardback books.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying high-grade beeswax twice yearly along the wood grain. Keep brass lattice and gallery rails free from harsh chemical polishes, using only a dry microfibre cloth to avoid stripping aged patina or harming adjacent woodwork.
