Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd has dated this Regency Mahogany Side Cabinet to the 19th Century.
This impressive piece of regency furniture is a true multi-purpose design.
Starting from the top, the piece has a triangular pediment with bold gadrooned moulding and a central motif of a ribboned wreath. Below this is an entirely plain and flat surface, in the frieze underneath the flat top is one central drawer, the drawer front ornamented with half round beading which also runs around the lower edge of the flanking sections to either side. These sections stand on ormolu capitals, beautifully cast and finished, and mahogany columns which terminate in ormolu bases. Between these columns and the central columns section are two alcoves. To either side of the central cupboard doors are boldly leaf carved trusses with panelled mouldings top and bottom surrounded by half round beading once again. Even the feet on this piece are superbly carved with central panelled mouldings and an interesting sabre shape.

This is an architectural piece in form and would have been designed and made by a firm of some importance. The timber used throughout is of the highest possible quality and has attained a wonderful colour and patination.
