An Excellent English Regency Mahogany and Ormolu Mounted Side Cabinet in the Grecian Taste.This impressive piece of regency furniture is a true multi-purpose design. The combination of flat surfaces and cupboards suggests that the piece might have been designed as a piece of sophisticated dining room furniture, perhaps as a small sideboard. Starting from the top, the piece has a triangular pediment with bold gadrooned moulding and a central motif of a ribboned wreath. Below this is an entirely plain and flat surface, in the frieze underneath the flat top is one central drawer, the drawer front ornamented with half round beading which also runs around the lower edge of the flanking sections to either side. These sections stand on ormolu capitals, beautifully cast and finished, and mahogany columns which terminate in ormolu bases. Between these columns and the central columns section are two alcoves.
