Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III style salon armchair typically incorporates Neo-Classical proportions, oval or shield-shaped backrests, and carved mahogany frames influenced by 18th-century English and French cabinetmaking. Popularised again during late 19th and early 20th-century revivals, these chairs feature open padded arms and fluted support legs.

These armchairs are predominantly constructed from solid mahogany timber, featuring hand-carved joinery, mortise and tenon joints, and moulded frame details. Upholstered sections traditionally use webbed foundations with natural hair stuffing, covered in textiles such as damask, brocade, or velvet.

Identification involves inspecting timber grain, hand-carved accents, and signs of age such as natural oxidisation on unvarnished underside areas. Late Victorian and Edwardian revival examples display precise moulding complemented by hand-finished detail and traditional screw fixings.

A carved mahogany salon armchair functions effectively as an accent piece alongside contemporary minimalist upholstery or positioned within a formal reading nook. Placing the chair against neutral walls allows the intricate timber carving and textile pattern to serve as a visual focal point.

Preservation requires dusting timber components with a soft microfibre cloth and applying beeswax sparingly along the mahogany grain. Keep upholstered fabric away from direct sunlight to prevent fibre degradation and vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment.
