Popularised during the 18th century, corner chairsalso known as writing or desk chairswere designed to sit neatly into room corners or alongside writing desks, offering freedom of movement for long coats and robes.

Georgian corner chairs were frequently crafted from native hardwoods such as British oak, elm, or walnut, utilising traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and wooden peg fastenings.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-planed timber, irregular hand-carved joinery, natural wood shrinkage over time, hand-cut splats, and original pegged construction.

These versatile chairs can be positioned in an unused room alcove, paired beside a writing desk, or placed as accent seating in a hallway or study.

Maintain the finish by applying clear beeswax polish along the grain annually, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources, and dusting regularly with a clean cloth.
