Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Identical paired construction: bedside pairs became standard practice in the early twentieth century.
Gilt-tooled green leather interior slides: typical twentieth-century revival cabinet appointments.
Even timber selection across both cabinets: consistent factory cabinetwork of the interwar period.
Uniform wear and smooth patina: careful domestic use over several decades.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 1920 bedside cabinets in the Georgian style stands ready for use in a modern home as functional bedside tables. Fashioned from warm brown mahogany with brass hardware, each cabinet possesses a tray top gallery with cut-out handles, a slatted tambour front door, and a single drawer at the base fitted with swan-neck brass handles over straight square legs. Additional visible details include the rich grain of the polished timber, shaped aprons beneath the drawers, and small brass knobs on the tambour doors. Measuring 77 cm high, 48 cm wide and 44 cm deep, these cabinets provide compact storage beside a bed in a master bedroom or guest room.

FAQs

Georgian tray top bedside cabinets typically feature elevated galleries with cut-out hand holds, designed originally to prevent items from sliding off. They often incorporate tambour sliding doors or panelled cupboards above lower drawers.

These cabinets were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often featuring oak or pine drawer linings, alongside brass drop handles or swan-neck pulls.

Authentic Georgian cabinets display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed timber surfaces, and natural patination around hardware. Sliding tambour mechanisms show hand-cut slats mounted onto fabric backings.

Position these cabinets flanking a bed to add historical contrast, or use them as side tables beside a contemporary sofa to balance modern proportions with classical timber tones.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
