This pair of children's chairs originates from China, dating from around 1900 in the Qing Dynasty style. Fashioned from elm with a dark brown lacquered finish, each chair displays a yoke-style top rail, a central splat back, and carved aprons beneath the seat. Visible details include mortise and tenon joinery, curved corner spandrels under the top rail, and signs of age with wear on the dark timber surfaces. Measuring 79 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, these compact items suit practical daily use in a child's bedroom, a playroom, or as decorative seating within an empty corner of a living space.

FAQs

Produced during the late Qing dynasty, these scaled-down seating options mirrored full-sized adult furniture forms, incorporating traditional joinery for household use.

These chairs were typically crafted from regional hardwoods like elm or pine and assembled using mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal fasteners, finished with protective surface lacquers.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved decorative aprons, subtle structural asymmetries, natural surface wear on high-touch areas, and original dark lacquer patination.

These compact pieces function as sculptural accent objects, low plant stands, or architectural focal points alongside contemporary case goods and understated upholstery.

Keep the wood in stable humidity levels, avoid exposure to direct sunlight, dust routinely with a soft cloth, and avoid chemical polishes that degrade historical lacquer.
