This pair of Edwardian armchairs originates from England around 1900 and displays an English Country House style. Constructed from walnut, the dark brown wooden frames showcase caned back panels, a central vase-shaped wooden splat, curved armrests, cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, and cream-coloured cotton upholstery on the seats. The re-polished finish highlights the smooth grain of the wood, while the combination of woven cane and upholstered seating provides both traditional texture and functional comfort for daily use. Each armchair measures 76 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, offering substantial yet compact proportions for domestic seating. These chairs suit a study, a drawing room, or a bedroom as standalone accent seating or as companion chairs beside a fireplace. They bring historic character to both traditional and contemporary interiors while functioning reliably for regular seating needs.

Edwardian seating, produced between 1901 and 1910, often revived 18th-century styles such as Queen Anne and Chippendale. These pieces typically feature lighter proportions, elegant cabriole legs, subtle carving, and decorative cane work panels.

Edwardian furniture makers favoured high-quality hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and satinwood. Construction often included hand-woven cane panels, mortise and tenon joinery, shaped splats, and cabriole legs ending in pad or claw-and-ball feet.

Authentic Edwardian armchairs display sharp hand-cut joinery, genuine aged walnut timber with natural patina, and correctly woven cane work. Look for traditional construction beneath the seat rail and evidence of historic hand-finishing techniques.

These chairs function well as occasional seating in a living room, flanking a side table, or placed on either side of a console. Their open cane backs and slim silhouette prevent smaller rooms from feeling overcrowded while adding textural interest.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and finish degradation. Maintain the cane by dusting gently with a soft brush and lightly misting the underside with water occasionally to prevent brittleness.
