Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A yew wood Windsor chair is a traditional English country chair featuring turned legs and a solid timber seat, with back spindles and arm supports socketed into the seat. Highly regarded for their dense grain and warm tone, Windsor chairs made from English yew were crafted primarily in regional centres during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Windsor chairs typically combine multiple native hardwoods, such as yew wood for the steam-bent bows and splats, and elm for the contoured saddle seat. Components are joined using traditional joinery, where legs, spindles, and stretchers are turned and wedged into bored holes within the solid seat.

Authentic period Windsor chairs exhibit natural timber shrinkage over time, leading to slightly oval socket joints and uneven wear patterns on the stretchers and seat. Look for regional makers marks on the seat edge, traditional hand-turned legs, and evidence of hand-carved fretwork on the central splat.

Position a Windsor chair as an accent piece in a reading nook, adjacent to a neutral sofa, or alongside a contemporary desk. The natural timber grain provides warmth and texture, contrasting effectively with minimalist walls and structured soft furnishings.

Maintain yew wood furniture by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight to prevent wood movement, warping, and finish fading.
