Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 20th century wall mirror follows the Chinese Chippendale style. Constructed from giltwood and glass, the piece presents an overall gold colour. The frame incorporates an elaborate pagoda pediment complete with four supporting columns and four hanging bells at the top. Moving down, the design includes asymmetric Rococo C-scrolls, acanthus leaf carving, and entwined foliate decoration framing a rectangular glass mirror plate. The stable construction measures 163 cm high, 80 cm wide, and 12.5 cm deep. Suitable for placement above the mantel in a reception room or hallway, the mirror brings a traditional English Country House aesthetic to interior spaces. The giltwood surface displays the standard wear expected from an antique of this age, while remaining in very good condition for display and daily use in a modern home.

FAQs

A Chinese Chippendale style mirror combines mid-18th-century European Rococo asymmetrical scrollwork with East Asian Chinoiserie motifs, such as pagodas, bells, and oriental foliage.

Traditional giltwood mirror frames are constructed from hand-carved wood coated with layers of gesso and clay bole before thin sheets of gold leaf are applied and hand-burnished.

Authentic revival pieces demonstrate intricate hand-carved wood joinery beneath the gilding, natural age-related wear to the gold leaf, and traditional glass securing techniques on the reverse.

Position a Chinese Chippendale mirror above a fireplace mantel, console table, or hallway sideboard to create a focal point that contrasts with clean modern lines.

Dust the carved details gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or damp cloths that can dissolve the water gesso ground or lift delicate gold leaf.
