This pair of late nineteenth-century open armchairs follows the Chippendale style in dark brown mahogany with deep grey-green faux leather upholstery and brass stud detailing along the seat rail. Each chair has a shaped top rail with a central scallop shell, acanthus scroll cresting, and carved foliate and reeded terminals. The pierced lattice splats include further foliate decoration, complemented by carved uprights with floral and blind fretwork, and curved arms with carved foliate detailing. The front square legs feature floral and blind fret carving, while the rear legs are outswept, and the whole frames stand stable in very good condition for their age. Measuring 95.2 cm high, 63 cm wide, and 53.2 cm deep, these seats suit a gentleman's library, a study, or a traditional dining room for daily use at a desk or table.

Chippendale style furniture, inspired by 18th-century cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, typically features pierced splats, intricately carved crest rails, gothic or chinoiserie fretwork, and sturdy cabriole or straight square legs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany for durability and rich grain structure, featuring traditional mortise and tenon joinery, carved pierced back splats, and drop-in or close-studded upholstered seats.

Authentic late Victorian revival pieces display hand-carved decorative elements, precise wood joinery without modern fasteners, natural patination on mahogany surfaces, and appropriate age-related wear to the frame base and stretchers.

Place the pair symmetrically flanking a sideboard, situate them at either end of a contemporary dining table as carvers, or incorporate them into a home library paired with modern lighting and understated textiles.

Dust the wood frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish periodically; clean and condition the leather upholstery with dedicated leather products to prevent drying or cracking over time.
