Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of ten Victorian dining chairs comprises two carver chairs and eight single chairs, dating from 1880. Made from walnut in a warm brown colour, the chairs display shaped carved walnut backs with burr walnut shaped splats, shaped open arms on the carver chairs, shaped walnut friezes, and drop-in shaped seats upholstered in white-and-grey striped fabric. They stand on shaped carved cabriole legs to the front and unusual shaped cabriole legs to the back, accented with shell carvings on the knees. Each chair measures 108.5 cm high, 59 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. Such a substantial collection provides seating around a dining table in a traditional dining room or country house setting. The design complements both period interiors and formal reception spaces, offering uniform seating for family meals or dinner parties. The sturdy walnut construction and newly reupholstered drop-in seats ensure daily functionality while maintaining a cohesive appearance across all ten matching chairs.

FAQs

These chairs synthesise 18th-century Queen Anne design elements, such as cabriole legs and vase-shaped splat backs, with Victorian manufacturing precision during the late 19th-century design revival.

Frames are typically crafted from solid walnut using mortise and tenon joinery, featuring hand-carved shell motifs on the knees and crest rails along with removable drop-in upholstered seats.

Authentic pieces display natural timber oxidisation, subtle surface patination, hand-carved detailing, and period-correct joinery techniques visible beneath the seat rails.

Pairing a full set of dark walnut chairs with a modern minimalist table or re-upholstering the seats in contemporary neutral fabrics creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and clean modern lines.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the natural timber grain and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the solid wood from shrinking or splitting.
