Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This suite comprises a matched group of twelve Lancashire ladder back dining chairs from the 1920 period, consisting of ten single chairs and two carvers. Constructed from oak in a warm brown timber finish, the chairs feature woven natural straw rush seats, curved wavy ladder back slats, turned front legs, and pad feet. The carver chairs include open wooden armrests supported by turned posts. The grain shows natural variations in tone across the frames. These rustic farmhouse dining chairs suit a traditional dining room or kitchen setting for family meals and daily gatherings. The singles measure 94 cm high by 48 cm wide with a 46 cm seat height, while the carvers measure 107 cm high by 56 cm wide with a 51 cm arm height.

FAQs

Lancashire ladder back chairs are a traditional style of English regional seating furniture originating in North West England during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, characterised by horizontal wavy back slats and woven rush seats.

These chairs are predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, ash, or elm, featuring hand-woven seats made from natural rushes and joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved shaped back slats, turned stretchers showing uneven wear from foot placement, hand-cut joinery, and natural patination on the timber surface.

A set of regional country chairs can be paired with a simple scrubbed pine or oak dining table to create contrast and texture within a contemporary farmhouse or country house interior scheme.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax polish annually to preserve the finish, and lightly vacuum rush seats gently to clear debris without disturbing the woven fibres.
