Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian revolving desk chair originates from the gentleman's library category and comes constructed from warm brown mahogany timber with brass castors. The design incorporates a broad curved back rail, shaped open arms, and a decorative pierced central splat above a shaped solid mahogany seat featuring a raised edge. The revolving base holds four swept legs that terminate in castors, showing natural wood grain variation and a smooth polished finish. Practical placement includes positioning the chair beside a writing table or study desk in a home office or library setting for daily seating needs. Dimensions measure 86 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, providing adequate proportions for standard desk clearance.

FAQs

Revolving desk chairs originated in the nineteenth century, combining traditional cabinetmaking with mechanical swivel bases to suit executive and clerical work environments.

These chairs were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, incorporating carved back splats, shaped saddle seats, and iron or brass swivel mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast iron or brass mechanism housings beneath the seat, natural wear around the armrests, original castors, and a aged timber patination.

Position the chair alongside a minimalist modern desk with brass accent lighting to create a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Regularly dust with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish, and keep the swivel mechanism clean and lightly lubricated.
