We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century rococo wall mirror is made from giltwood and glass with a gold colour. The ornate frame displays extensive openwork carving, featuring pierced cresting at the top with acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and delicate floral and foliate motifs. The design continues symmetrically down the sides and around the bottom with similar scrollwork and foliate details, framing the central glass mirror plate. The surface retains its original gilded finish, showing areas that have been reglued on the frame, alongside the replacement unbevelled mirror plate. The dimensions are 98 cm high and 59 cm wide. Suitable for residential interiors, this piece is traditionally placed as an accent piece above a mantel or on a drawing room wall. Its decorative aesthetic brings period character to a hallway, bedroom, or living space. Wall mounting provides a functional reflective surface while serving as an ornamental focal point within traditional or eclectic room schemes.

Rococo giltwood mirrors from the 18th century feature organic curves, C-scrolls, S-scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and elaborate pierced carving finished in gold leaf.

These frames were typically carved from softwoods such as pine or lime, coated with multiple layers of gesso, and finished using water or oil gilding with thin sheets of gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces display natural wear to the gilded surface exposing underlying red or grey bole, hand-carved joinery marks on the reverse, and original mirror plates showing light oxidisation.

Position the mirror above a minimalist console table or mantelpiece to create a focal point that contrasts historical carving against clean architectural lines.

Dust gently using a dry, soft badger-hair brush, avoiding water, liquid cleaners, or chemical solvents that can dissolve gesso and loosen fragile gold leaf.
