These Victorian library chairs date from 1880 and take the form of a matching pair of armchairs. The frames are constructed from black lacquered hardwood with cabriole legs at the front, out-swept legs at the rear, brass castors, and shaped open arms with padded armrests. The openwork backrests include carved and shaped detailing, and the newly reupholstered seats feature pale green striped fabric. Each chair stands 93 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this pair functions as seating in a gentleman's library, study, or drawing room. The chairs provide practical armchairs for reading or desk work while adding a traditional period element to the interior scheme.

Victorian library chairs typically feature deep seats, supportive armrests, and decorative wooden frames, often executed in ebonised, lacquered, or dark hardwood finishes to suit formal study settings.

Late Victorian lacquered chairs were predominantly constructed from hardwoods like beech or walnut, finished with black lacquer or ebonised varnish, and upholstered in woven fabrics, velvet, or leather.

Authentic Victorian pieces often feature brass castors, hand-carved openwork detailing, frame wear consistent with age, and traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints beneath the upholstery.

A pair of carved Victorian armchairs can be used as statement accent seating alongside a contemporary sofa, placed symmetrically in a bay window, or styled framing a fireplace.

Clean lacquered wooden surfaces with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture, and keep the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking or finish degradation.
