This set of six Regency side or dining chairs dates from circa 1820 and is formed from solid dark brown Gonçalo Alves timber. Each chair displays a carved crest rail, a detailed backsplat with carved anthemion motifs, reeded turned front legs, and a hand-woven cane seat. The timber exhibits a rich dark tone with natural wood grain patterns visible across the framework and legs. Measuring 85 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, these chairs are suited for placement around a dining table in a traditional or period dining room. They provide functional seating while introducing architectural Regency design elements to an interior space.

Regency chairs, dating from approximately 1811 to 1830, are characterised by classical Greco-Roman proportions, delicate turned or reeded legs, intricately carved backsplats, and the frequent use of dark, figure-rich timbers like rosewood, mahogany, and Goncalo Alves.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era utilized fine tropical hardwoods, employing hand-carved joinery, hand-woven cane seating, and decorative carved crest rails featuring anthemion, palmette, or scroll motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural wear patterns on lower stretchers and footrests, original hand-carved details, and aged patination on exotic woods alongside traditional hand-woven cane bases.

Regency chairs pair well with minimalist modern dining tables, contemporary art, or neutral walls, where their crisp classical silhouettes and rich timber tones provide architectural structure and historical contrast.

Cane seats require occasional light misting with water on the underside to maintain elasticity, while the timber frames should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned with natural beeswax paste to protect the original finish.
