Description

An exceptional late 19th-century Neo-Classical / Italianate architectural tabernacle wall mirror, crafted in gilded and parcel-painted wood featuring a prominent projecting corniced pediment over a dentil-moulded frieze. The rectangular frame surrounding the heavily foxed original mercury-silvered mirror plate is adorned with a delicate incised Greek key (meander) border motif, all resting upon a molded stepped plinth base. Inspired by Renaissance tabernacle frames and 18th-century Classical revival architecture, this piece displays a wonderful aged patina with authentic surface wear that highlights its structural proportions
