This Victorian music chair in the Sheraton Revival style is manufactured from dark brown mahogany with marquetry inlay and silk brocade upholstery. The piece takes the form of a revolving harpist or cello chair, standing 94 cm high and 41 cm wide, with a round seat that adjusts in height through a swivel mechanism. The backrest is shaped like a lyre, containing vertical slats and a central oval cartouche with marquetry urn decoration. Below the revolving round seat, four splayed legs curve outward, supported by a central turned column and an X-shaped cross stretcher. The silk brocade seat cover displays a multi-coloured woven floral pattern in shades of green, gold, and pink, finished with a pink braided trim along the lower edge. Light surface scuffs appear on the wooden legs and the frame, showing signs of prior use. This practical seating item functions well in a music room, study, or drawing room, positioned at an instrument or as a decorative accent chair.

Popularised during the Neoclassical and Regency periods, the lyre back music chair features a backrest shaped like a classical stringed lyre and an integrated swivel mechanism, allowing performers full range of motion while playing instruments such as the piano, cello, or harp.

These chairs were commonly crafted from polished hardwoods like mahogany or rosewood, frequently accented with fine wood marquetry, metal swivel screws, and upholstered seats featuring woven silk, satin, or tapestry fabrics.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved details, natural surface wear, hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and threaded cast iron or wooden revolving mechanisms underneath the seat frame.

Position the piece near an instrument, within an empty corner, or beside a writing desk to act as a functional accent seat that introduces Neoclassical form to modern spaces.

Dust the wood framework regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain annually, and clean upholstered sections with a soft brush to prevent dust accumulation.
