This nineteenth-century overmantel mirror exemplifies French Rococo Revival style with its large arched gold giltwood and gesso frame. The decorative surface displays moulded beaded trim alongside applied gesso fern leaf and flower cresting at the top center and both lower corners, resting on stout round white ceramic feet. Slight losses to the original gold paint appear on the frame. Measuring 76 cm high, 114 cm wide and 9 cm deep, the mirror functions practically above a fireplace mantel or upon a sideboard in a living room, hallway or bedroom within a home today. The large decorative arched over mantle mirror provides a reflective glass surface enclosed within the heavily ornamented frame. The structure stands upright on the desk surface using the two small spherical ceramic supports visible beneath the lower corners.
