Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival furniture from around 1830 features elaborate scrollwork, C-scroll crestings, carved foliage, and fluid cabriole or turned legs. Influenced by 18th-century French design, these pieces emphasised decorative gilded wood, padded armrests, and vibrant textile upholstery.

These armchairs were carved from hardwoods such as walnut, beech, or mahogany, which were then prepared with gesso and layered with gold leaf. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural horsehair padding, steel springs, jute webbing, and silk brocade or damask fabrics.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, natural wear to the gilding revealing the underlying bole or gesso, and original brass castors. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-stitched webbing, antique brass tacks, and period timber construction.

An ornate giltwood armchair serves as an effective focal point in contemporary spaces when placed beside neutral walls or paired with minimalist furnishings. Placing it in a bedroom corner, dressing room, or formal reception area highlights its sculptural silhouette.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can lift the gold leaf. Protect silk upholstery from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and vacuum using a soft brush attachment on low suction.
