We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian carver armchair is a dining chair fitted with armrests, designed to sit at the head or foot of a dining table. Characterised by classical proportions, high-quality timber such as mahogany, and ornate back splats, these pieces were produced during the reigns of King George I through King George IV.

Nineteenth-century carver chairs were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods like Cuban or Honduran mahogany, oak, and walnut. Hand-cut joinery, mortise and tenon joints, and horsehair-stuffed seats covered in wool, leather, or woven damask were standard features.

Authentic Georgian mahogany seating displays hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-planed frame surfaces, and irregular saw marks on unexposed undersides. Original frames usually feature peg construction, corner blocks, and natural age oxidation in the timber grain.

A Chippendale-style carver chair functions effectively as a standalone desk chair, a hallway accent seat, or integrated into an eclectic dining arrangement alongside modern tables. Re-upholstering the drop-in or fixed seat with contemporary geometric or textured fabric creates a balanced contrast between historic woodwork and modern decor.

Maintain antique mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement directly adjacent to radiators or under direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, joint loosening, and finish bleaching.
