Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The toilet mirror, or dressing mirror, became prominent during the late 17th and early 18th centuries as dedicated dressing tables were introduced in European homes. Designed to sit atop a chest of drawers or table, these pivoting mirrors allowed adjustable angles for personal grooming.

These mirrors were commonly constructed using native hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, often finished with figure veneers like burr walnut. The mirror plates were made from mercury-gilded or hand-blown glass, secured within timber frames using wooden or brass side knobs.

Authentic Queen Anne style mirrors typically feature softly arched or double-domed tops, shaped lower aprons, turned finials, and curved support legs. Examining the underside and back panels for hand-sawn timber marks, original brass fixings, and natural oxidisation helps confirm age.

An antique table mirror can be placed on a contemporary dressing table, sideboard, or chest of drawers to create a focal point. Combining warm walnut timber with neutral stone surfaces or modern textiles creates a balanced contrast in contemporary interiors.

Clean the timber frame periodically with a soft cloth and beeswax polish, rubbing gently along the wood grain. Avoid using liquid glass cleaners directly on the frame or mirror edges, as moisture can seep behind the glass and cause silvering degradation or wood swelling.
