This Louis XVI style mahogany vitrine display cabinet dates from 1900, presenting a warm brown wood finish enriched by gilt metal ormolu mounts. The upper section comprises a projecting stepped cornice above a recessed frieze with classical brass ornamentation. Below this sits a large bevelled glazed door enclosing a cream silk upholstered interior fitted with two glass shelves and a lower panelled cupboard section. Ornate brass mounts accent the corners, stiles, and apron, while the base incorporates a narrow lower frieze drawer and stands upon short turned wooden legs. The cabinet measures 170 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 39 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece suits a living room, hallway, or dining room as a refined display unit for porcelain, glassware, or decorative objects. The glass shelves and light fabric backing allow ambient light to filter through the display area, while the enclosed lower section provides supplementary storage. The classic proportions and classical motifs integrate smoothly into traditional or transitional schemes, offering both practical display space and formal French chateau character.

Louis XVI style furniture is defined by its Neoclassical influence, featuring straight geometric lines, symmetry, and classical motifs such as rosettes, ribbons, and fluted legs, departing from the elaborate curves of the preceding Rococo period.

Traditional French vitrines from this era typically feature dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, original hand-blown glass panels, gilded bronze or brass ormolu mounts, and interiors lined with silk or velvet.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, original dovetail drawer construction, cast brass or bronze ormolu fittings showing natural patination, and proportional Neoclassical ornamentation without modern mechanical fasteners.

Position a mahogany vitrine as a focal piece against a neutral wall, filling the glass shelves with curated collections such as ceramics, contemporary glassware, or books to create contrast with modern decor.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish, and clean glass panels using ammonia-free cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than the frame.
